Summary: The Order retreats to Hogwarts.

As soon as Jamie was out of the Ministry, he Apparated to Grimmauld Place, and began sending messages.

He sent the first message to Severus and Moody. Voldemort has taken control of the Ministry, get ready to set up defences at Hogwarts. Be there as soon as I inform everyone..

The second was a fire message to all members of the Order: Voldemort has control of the Ministry. You and your family are to relocate at Hogwarts immediately. Take anything necessary; you won't go back.

Then there was fire message to the teachers on board who were members of the Order, while the ones who weren't received a Patronus with the exact message.

Voldemort has control of the Ministry and there was an explosion at King's Cross. Do not tell the students or you'll have panic. Stop the train, Apparate the Muggleborns home and advise them to leave immediately. Advice anyone capable of Apparating, with or without a license, to take themselves and any siblings home. When done, retreat to Hogwarts and bring Hugo, Alex, Roxanne and Louis Weasley.

Another Patronus was for Al: Voldemort has control of the Ministry. Go to Hogwarts immediately. Take anything necessary from the house, because you won't go back.

Finally, he sent a last message to Sirius. You'd better be okay. I'm going to Hogwarts, get your arse there, and let me know, you're okay.

Finally, he changed into something more comfortable, grabbed his broom and anything that he could think they'd need in the coming months. Thankfully, they had the house under Fidelius and would be able to return. He handed the trunk to Dolan and told him to go straight to Kreacher and then he Apparated to Hogwarts, the last free place in the country.

They will come here and if you're not here, but out there somewhere, they will not just let you live and walk away if they find you.

"This isn't about being soldiers, this is about surviving. Retreat, hiding, call it what you will. But, Hogwarts is the safest refuge for anyone who doesn't intend to join the people who actually wielded the wand that ended your life the first time. I know, the blame is mine for not telling you of the possibility sooner. And I will gladly accept that blame. But, unless you want to become one of them, you need to join the rest of the refugees going to Hogwarts.

"And, damnit, I lost you once and it started a downward slide I have never recovered from. You may not believe in second chances, but I'm beginning to and I have a second chance now. I'm sure that means nothing to you, my second chance. But, I'm not losing you again -- be that to the Death Eaters or my own mistakes."

"If that's true, then he needs to check his priorities." Not that it was surprising considering that the lad was eighteen.

"Al, I don't blame you for what happened to me. I don't care about what happened to me, because I had a good life. I couldn't imagine being luckier. A good family, great friends, amazing jobs, a brother I loved and a wonderful son. I had everything a man could possibly want, and now I have nothing. I've had perfection and this so-called second chance can only be much worse. It already is," he said. "Go to Hogwarts, Al. Have your second chance. Maybe you can find what really matters in life. I'll be fine out here. I'll leave the house. No one knows who I am. I'll get a job, some money. No one is going to bother with me; I'll be all right."

They were running out of time. "Look, very few people realise exactly what all this means and we don't have time for me to explain everything. But, they will soon enough. Cal, Dumbledore is dead. That's why this is happening now. Dumbledore is dead. They've taken the Ministry. As soon as they've secured it, they will come for the Order and Hogwarts, anyone and anything that could be a rallying point for resistance. They've had someone in the Ministry for months feeding them information. We never learned who. If they have any sort of tactician working for them, they'll be checking the bodies of the Aurors to determine which of us are still alive and checking records for residences, family, anywhere we might go and anyone we might care about -- Auror and Order alike. I know we see the secrecy differently, you and I. But, there is precious little of it now and they know who we all are. All of us. They will know you are back and they will come hunting, just as they will come hunting for any family with a connection to the Order or the school."

Sighing, Alastor shook his head, desperate to make his brother understand and quickly. "This isn't like last time, Cal. This isn't two sides of vigilantes taking each other on in the shadows. This is a systematic takeover of our world. Match to the enemy. Their Seeker caught the snitch. Churchill's dead and Hitler's moving into Buckingham Palace as we speak. We've lost. They've won. And now we need to survive until we can take our world back because if we don't, it doesn't stop here. The Muggles will be next. I've just come from King's Cross where the station is in shambles. Blown to hell. We're stopping the Express and getting the kids to their families through alternate means and telling the muggleborns to get out of the country. But, an attack on the Express once they find it wouldn't surprise any of us. Hogwarts is the only place that is going to be safe and we haven't had time to finish all the defences there as it is.

"And we need you. I need you. I've already taken my second chance at life. The second chance I want to take is the one where I have a brother and I can't have that if you don't come with me. -- And dammit all, if I get emotional to the point I can't give orders when we get there I will hex you into the middle of next year and feed you to those dragons you care so much about as soon as we get them."

Callum was really getting tired of this discussion. He didn't care about his name or his life. He thought he'd made that clear, but then Al went on, giving him more details. Again, he didn't care about Dumbledore, the Aurors or the Order. Aurors were paid to do this and Dumbledore was just a Transfiguration professor. No, none of that mattered, but for once, Alastor wasn't talking about obligations and duties. Sure they were still there, but there was a real need that woke up Callum's brotherly instincts.

He wasn't ready to let go of his anger, but he nodded. "I'll come with you - for now - but if you want me to stay, we're going to sit down and we're going to talk, or I'll walk out. I don't care what's happening, if there are people with wand standing outside the door, I will walk out from that castle. Do you understand?"

Thank God, Alastor thought with relief. Hell, he wasn't even sure what he'd said to get his brother to agree to this much. But if talking got Callum to safety, Alastor would figure out a way to talk.

"I understand." He nodded. "I can't promise when. Not," he said quickly to forestall a protest, "that I mean to put it off. But, it's going to be chaos when we get there. No one is ready for this and most of them will be looking for Dumbledore to lead. There's going to be civilians and families in addition to fighters. We have to get them organised and disseminate information, formulate a plan for immediate survival with a timeline of possibly hours...

"And when I say 'we', I mean that literally as including myself. Not a general 'we' as the Order. With Dumbledore dead, myself and two others are in charge. Until we get there and see what's needed, I can't promise more than 'soon'." And he was very purposefully not thinking of the fact that he didn't know where Marlene was at that moment. Or the others. "But, we will talk. I promise."

He clapped Al's back. "I only have a change of clothes to get. I'll be read in a few minutes, even less. Let's get you to Hogwarts so you play leader." It would give Callum the time to see and make a decision about his future.
