Re: After the Meeting - Marlene and Remus
"Oh, stop it. It's fun," she said, smiling. "Not everything has to be educational or deep, sometimes it's just fun." She chuckled. "First of all, there's no such thing as just clothes, not for me. Second, this is what I do, Remus. I take little details here and there and put them together. It's not just than I'm an Auror, not all of us have the same skills. I'd be rubbish as head for example, but making deduction is what I do. I'm not infallible, but I get it right more times than not. To me, those 'just clothes' tell me that there's someone who cares for you."
She nudged lightly Remus' shoulder with hers. "I'm sorry, love. No one should have to go through that, but I'm glad that you're better now. I think it's better for Alastor, too. In a way, I was lucky. It's easier to ignore the deaths when I didn't have to live with them. I still miss my family, but it's different, because I might have lost them a few months ago, but it's been a lot more for the rest of the world. Still, I went to the house and found my birthday presents. I still haven't opened them. It's the last link. When I open them, it's over. Maybe, I'll have Alastor bring them over. Just in case."
She smiled despite of what they were discussing. "You were a boy to me. The four of you, Red, so young, and yes, James is rather young, and I'm sure he'll rise to the task like you all did, but that doesn't mean that he's not a boy. We'll just stay close to him and make sure that he gets the support he needs. He's going to need it." Especially once Dumbledore died, but she wasn't ready to deal with that yet. "So you feel younger, but you're growing up." She chuckled at that. "I'm not sure how it works, but I like the idea of a better friend."
Marlene looked over at where Alastor was taking to Potter. "I doubt that many people grew up like we did. I think the difference is that people find that when they find the right one. We found that before." She wasn't impressed by the grin. "There is always Peter," she said, knowing that it wouldn't happen, but maybe Remus didn't need a childhood friend. "Or there is the person giving you fancy robes." When she spoke, the little pieces fell into place. "You seemed to know a lot about what he might or might not like at the party. I swear I was totally honourable when I danced with him."
