Alastor could see her mind working behind those big brown eyes. Too many stopped at the eyes, the looks, he thought, and never really bothered to see past that to the woman behind them. It made most people underestimate her. But, Alastor knew her well enough not to be surprised when she could put two and two together and get four.
"Good guess," he confirmed, knowing his own behaviour would have been enough to give that conclusion. Squeezing her hand gently, he nodded. "I know you will." She was the one constant in his life, much as he'd never thought in those terms before. And, he really needed that consistency right then.
