Summary: Marlene investigates Voldemort's latest killings
It was common to control the Muggle world for signs of magic. While technically all magic in the Muggle world, the Ministry had its own internal scale about which spells were more a violation of the Secrecy treaty than others. A quick spell that the Muggles would never see or notice wasn't something that warrented sending out Obliviators and starting hearing with the Wizengamot. Killing was a whole different ballpark, and the news of several deaths due to magic eventually made its way from the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes to Department of Magical Law Enforcement (although they really needed a better system other than gossip).
Marlene rushed downstairs and got all the information that they had gathered. It wasn't much. Killing curse, other unknown lethal hexes, all dead without any way for the Muggles to identify cause of death, no witnesses.
Snakes!
That was all Marlene needed to know that it was Voldemort. She made a copy of the report for the MLE and then made her way to Chessington's World of Adventure. There was yellow tape in front of the snake house. She cast a confundo on the bobby standing there, and slipped inside. The place was deserted, but it smelt of death. People thought of death as the end, but it was just the beginning, with the body decomposing, leaving a very particular smell behind. She ignored it though. It wasn't the first or last time that she'd be around death, instead she focused on the snakes and the place. She began searching the snake out, checking for empty compartments and traces of magic. It was the magic that led her to the base of a statue. It was much like the one in the Chamber, but this was close. She had no time for subtlety and she blasted the front open, breaking the stone.
Marlene started her ritual, looking at the alcove, touching it, trying to get into Voldemort's mind. "More memories, something else." But what else? "And four? I was so sure that they'd be three, but I was wrong, so how many more? And where? Why here? Why in a zoo? I'm going to have to do some research, won't I? I know Voldemort, but this is Muggle territory, this is Tom Riddle. Mr. Riddle, I think you and I need to get to know each other." She'd have to go and see Dumbledore, find out everything he knew about Tom Riddle, before doing her own research in the Muggle world. She'd have to move, because she had no idea how long she'd had until he reached the next memory.
