The sitting room was not exactly what she pictured when thinking of Sirius and James, too formal, too feminine, but it was a beautiful room all the same. She let him move the cushions so they could sit, and took a deep breath as he sat down close to her.
"I've read the material," she started. "And given it careful consideration." She paused, because there was no polite or nice or good way of telling him no. "I want to say yes, Sirius. I want to be able to give this to you, and I understand that logically there would be no reason for me to be attached to the child or children."
"However, even I have to realise that logic does not cover everything, and as much as I'd like to stay detached, I don't think I could. I'd care, I'd want to be there, I'd want to be a part of their lives. I would not be able to just ignore that they're my biological children. I'd want them to know that one day."
"I'm sorry, but you're better off with someone else. Someone, perhaps, who does not know you, who will not be around these children."
