Re: James/Scorpius
"I never said you were embarrassing anyone, but you're wrong about the suffering. There is political repercussions, and while you might know want to see them or don't consider them harmful, they still are," he said calmly, because for once he wasn't upset. This wasn't something that touched him personally. "Your grandmother's base of support comes from conservative purebloods and your behaviour puts her on the spot. So if you think that this will prove them that you're right, you might be disappointed."
James laughed. "Again, you're talking to a man who had fake dates at all the major events. We go through the motions because it's easier, but again if you think they haven't suffered both in political and social standing then you're blind. You don't get to stop playing the game and remain a Malfoy. That can't work in the long run."
He nodded. "Yeah. What do you think I was going to do? Be an Auror for the rest of my life, retire at forty? No, the division was never the end of my career. If you haven't noticed, Aurors don't have long careers. If they survive, they get a nice desk."
