"No, I don't need you to know about every detail, because I don't even understand all of them, but I would want you to know a little more than a vague: I want children," he said, staying very calm, but he didn't like the idea that Sirius was treating this like some joke.
"I need you to know a few details, yes," he answered. "This isn't something that you can improvise, Sirius. You don't decide to have children and it happens. It takes planning, and a timetable. We can't play it by ear. We need to have our Is dotted and Ts crossed."
James sighed. "I don't have to wait, Sirius. I'd have one today if we could, but I know that's not what you want. So yes, I want to talk about it, but only if you mean it and only if it's more than some vague notion. You want to talk about it, then we look into the donor, and the surrogate, and the place to do it, and the Muggle adoptions. So when you're ready, then you tell me and we discuss anything you want, but until then, I'm not going to do this."
