"It sounds to me like you're using Slytherin logic. I'm impressed." After all when you didn't like something, you could always find a different explanation to justify past actions. "And again, I didn't say that I wouldn't try. In fact, I've told you I would."
Regulus snorted. "You are underestimating Sirius' powers of delusion. James might be calling me that, but I assure you that Sirius was not. He clearly said that he could raise the next heir, to which I answered that he would make a great father, but a lousy head of the family. So I've already told him everything you just said, and he felt annoyed and hurt. The only thing missing was the kicked puppy look, like it's my fault that he's never cared in the past."
He got out of bed again, because he needed to move, and being so close to Remus was almost claustrophobic. "I can't believe this is turning into a discussion about him. This is ridiculous. He is willing to consider them but doesn't know them. Well that's fucking bullshit, that's what it is. He's been raised in this family, and he might pretend not to know, but he does. When I told him about writing Narcissa, he answer with a 'yes, mother', because that's what she was a nag, always telling him what to do, and that's what I represent, because he couldn't figure out on his own that he should write Narcissa after she gave us a home. In fact,he basically said that he didn't want to because he didn't like Lucius, as if that had anything to do with it." He stood at the foot of the bed, staring at Remus. "You might know the both of us, but you don't seem to know my brother, or the depths of his selfishness. In the end, he will do what he wants, when he wants, without regards to who suffer for it, and without really thinking if anyone will suffer for it. He doesn't think. He'll never think, and to expect anything different is a dream."
He ran his fingers through his hair, trying to think about the possibilities and one thing he knew for sure. "If you're relying on him for this to become reality, then find some other way or he will disappoint you like he's disappointed plenty of other people. You also won't get the Wizengamot to pass a law like this without a test case, and my child will not be that test case, because if it goes wrong, he will be a bastard, and I can't take that risk. I will not have a child in the hope that the Wizengamot will follow Muggle rules."
Regulus sighed. "Angry with you? I'm not angry with you. I've made a choice, and whatever happens, I will not blame you, but I'm telling you that your optimism needs to face the fact that you are pinning your hopes on Sirius, and the likelihood that it will blow up in your face is rather high."
