Remus blinked, not having actually believed he'd hear what he just heard, despite what he'd said. For a moment, he honestly didn't think he could remember how to breath.
"What happened to balancing each other out? We can fix any misunderstanding?" He shook his head trying to make sense of what was happening. "Are you really just going to give up?"
He couldn't actually say the words. Now that it was a very real possibility that he was about to lose Regulus completely, he couldn't say it. And really, he didn't have a clue why the school was going to turn on the Slytherins.
"I don't give a damn about Rose Weasley!" It didn't matter that he was nearly shouting or that he might not ever breath again. "It will not make me feel better to talk to her about anything. Damn it. I don't care if the entire school comes crashing down around our ears.
"You want me to do what I have to do?
"What I have to do is this, right here, trying to get through to you because your are the most important person in my life and none of the rest of that means anything at all if I lose you."
