James decided that it would be easier to answer point by point although he held little hope tht his father would just drop the matter. "Not Homicide, because Moody is there and so is Dylan. Not Major Crime, because while I can see the political and career advantages during normal times, these are hardly normal times. Until there are Death Eaters around, that's the way to Voldemort."
"Not the werewolf task force, because that was fine as a trainee when I couldn't officially investigate Vildemort, but now it's more an obstacle than something I want to do," he continued. "And while you decide, you listen to Moody and he already said no. If you didn't listen to them, we wouldn't have this restructure so I'm not xactly holding my breath on that front."
He sighed. "Moody asked me what I'd bring to the Voldemort task force and I couldn't answer without sounding completely obnoxious, but I got more than any of them and if I quit, I don't have to tell them. So maybe the right question is what does the division give me. I have a direct line to him. Severus can train me better than the teachers. If I need back-up, there's the Order. The Aurors only give me procedures and limits."
James snorted. "Right, and you and the possible leverage they woyld have with me on their unit is irrelevant. Of course the fact that I'm a lot better at twenty than the lot of them will only be relevant when they'll start bitching that I'm an arrogant git because I'm the boss' son. Never mind that I'm an arrogant git because I'm better. Let's not even go into how long me and Moody will last before we start arguing."
He stared at his father. "She wants you dead. It might suck to be your son, but it's worse if you die. Be careful."
