"From a historical perspective yes, I can see how you would get that impression, depending on what you've read. But in the last one hundred years, and especially in the past ten years, there have been some major shifts of thought on the therapy process in general. As with any branch of study, things evolve over time. Modern Transfiguration, for example, is nearly unrecognizable from ancient Transfiguration." She paused to let him process, and then continued.
"If you like, I can suggest some titles to read, that explain a more modern approach to counseling. And you are, of course, welcome to any of the books in the office. They all have to do with psychology, or sister branches sociology, anthropology and biology." She gestured toward the walls that were filled with books upon books, mostly muggle but the odd Wizarding text as well. There weren't many, but they did exist.
"A probationary period is acceptable. However, I will also expect to provide you with an evaluation of my own. It's only fair after all, as it's your progress that I'm being paid to see to."
She handed over the paperwork for him to sign after signing it herself. "For our first session I would like you to prepare a list of goals you'd like to work towards and owl it to be ahead of time. That will give me time to prepare for our session."
