Alastor shook his head, wondering how they'd gone from his tendency towards overworking to him now practically running the department.
"It's all about finding Voldemort. I'm not looking to retrieve the escapees. I want to track the ones who might possibly lead us to him." He paused. "All right, maybe I also want to bring in any still living who I might have brought in the first time. But, that's personal, not a directive. And, yes, I'm concerned if the bastard has new recruits. Anyone connected to him could be the link we need to find him. 'Finding Voldemort' is a broad directive that encompasses knowing what's going on with other investigations that show the potential for overlapping.
"But I'm hardly running the division. We're short-staffed, yes. We've lost a lot of men, a lot of good men, in a short span of time."
Raising an eyebrow, he bit back an angry retort and moderated it down to irritated.
"I do not suck at strategy!" He couldn't argue that he hated to delegate (although he did when necessary) or that he had a tendency to over-working himself on a case that he felt strongly about.
"You need to spend some time in that division," he continued. "Time without me there to see how it's actually being run. Stop playing nursemaid and go into work. Spend a few days on the job seeing how the division is really run. Actually talk to Potter and learn who he is and how he operates. He's green. He's too friendly. And he's been given a shite task with less than a year's experience leading the division under his belt.
"Then, when I come back in a couple weeks, if you still feel that way, well, that's your decision. We need you there. I need you there. But, you need to see it first before you make any judgement calls."
