He was glad that the funeral was small. Grandpa wouldn't have wanted a lot of people around, just his beloved daughter and her family. He'd remained dry-eyed through the short ceremony, and now they were gathered around the gravestone above an empty grave, huddled close together.
He closed his eyes and said a silent farewell to Grandpa, leaning against his dad, Sandy on the other side of their mother. They were silent for a long while, each saying goodbye in their own way. It was only when his mother looked close to tears again that he spoke.
