He gave his mother another hug, holding her close. But he didn't hover, didn't press, didn't do any of the things that maybe he should have done. It just wasn't in him to be pushy.
"I love you, Mum. And you can stay as long as you want to, you know that right?" He sighed and pulled back, moving to speak to his children instead, not that he knew what to say to them any more than he knew what to say to his mother. How did you say something when nothing was enough?
