James rolled his eyes at the house description. He doubted anyone could come up with that nowadays. "I'm pretty sure the workers would refuse to put those things anyway, so you're safe there."
He snorted. "When is the the last point that you surprised me? You're the most predictable man I know." Maybe Sirius wasn't, and yet he hadn't been able to surprise James. "I think you're failing at your brilliancy, or your friends were just easy to impress," he said, knowing that it sounded like a dare, and didn't care.
James wasn't really surprised by the request. It was fair after all, but he really didn't know if he could promise that. He knew that just like Sirius, his first instinct would be to go after Voldemort to make him pay for hurting Sirius, but he owed Sirius more than that. He took a deep breath and then nodded. "I promise that I'll do my best, but I'll keep an eye on you so it's not an issue."
