Stephen raised his glass and smiled. "He's a clever boy," he said. "We're proud of him." Though the topic they were supposed to be discussing was so much more important than even Stephen, and as soon as Draco promised his silence, Theo went on.
"I'm pretty sure Dumbledore does know about this, but I doubt he'd think to use it," he said. "I've been in contact with the Dark Lord for some time now, gaining his trust. Nothing much, and he has not trusted me with anything worth while yet, but- If possible, and if we can think of anything I can offer the Dark Lord, I am willing to see if he'll trust me enough to get me close to Scorpius."
It was not an offer made easily, for if he managed it would mean losing the chance - the only chance - he had to get close enough to the Dark Lord to avenge Charlotte's murder. But he was a father, and he'd lost a child, and Draco was a friend going through something similar. If it was anyone else he would not offer to blow his cover for such a thing.
"Whatever we come up with has to be good, and believable, for so far he's using me as nothing more than an information central. Nothing that gives me anything to play with. We will have to create that."
