"Oh, yeah, you can definitely do that," he answered. "I mean you can use spells to stop it, but you can physically stop him too." He could understand why she'd want some control over Toby. "Just because he has magic, it doesn't mean that things will change. You're still his mum, and the toys don't really give him any powers. He won't be able to do real magic for years.
James sighed again. "I know it's not my fault that he's insane, but I still wish that you hadn't got mixed up in all of this. You still would have had a wonderful son who would have discovered magic at eleven instead of four."
He nodded. "Fine, I'll explain it to him." He tightened his hold, steadying the broom for Allison. "I'm not trying to play Dad, and I don't want to take him from you. You know that, right?"
