RP: Alex and Open
Who: Alex Weasley, Regulus Black, Severus Snape
Where: The alcove off the Charms corridor, then to the Headmaster's office
When: Lunchtime
Rating/Warnings: teenage drinking
Summary: Alex can't resist, and pays the price.
Another student dead.
Another owl returned, unopened.
Alex sat in the stone windowsill with a text and his notebook, but wasn't reading. He was thinking about Mona. Wondering where she was. Wondering if she was okay. She'd sent back his last letter unopened, and the message in that was pretty clear. She didn't want to hear from him. But still, he wondered if she was okay.
He began to shred the envelope into thin strips, not opening it, then reduced those strips to confetti, letting them sift from his fingers into the breeze outside the window. He probably shouldn't have it open. It was cold. But there wasn't anyone else in the corridor anyway.
"Weasley."
Well, nearly nobody. Alex looked up, finding the cheery face of a Hufflepuff seventh-year. He cocked an eyebrow.
"You need?"
Alex started to shake his head. Drink was the last thing he needed right now. But the word. Need. It set his mouth to watering. His throat to burning.
"What d'you have?"
"Stoli. Ogden's. Dark."
"Ogden's." Alex dug into his pocket.
The boy traded a bag for the money Alex produced, then tapped it to restore it to full size. Alex shoved it into his schoolbag. "Thanks."
"Sure thing. Been a while."
Alex nodded, smiling wryly. It had. Been a while. He waited until the boy had gone, then pulled his bag open, twisting the top off the bottle, then lifting it for a long drink. It burned deliciously. It had been ages. Months? Felt like it...
He took another long drink, then another, then capped off the bottle again, sitting back with his book. Somehow the thought of the letter he'd shredded didn't hurt quite so much now.
