He didn't spend much time trying to bring the two versions of himself together the way Remus had, but this was one thing he couldn't reconcile in his mind - that he would have been able to get out of that place, even with the motivation of Harry, but he remembered how hard it was to even function at the most basic level - it pained him to admit it, but he didn't think he had it in him. "It didn't feel like I was making a difference today. I just ... I'm not that man, I'm not the person who could break out of Azkaban. All I could do in there was sit and listen to the screaming and wait to die."
He shrugged when James asked him about Harry. "He wanted to know how I was." He snorted slightly and shook his head. "He asked me about joining the werewolf unit, too."
