Harry wished he was more surprised at that news, but Dumbledore was who he was and he didn't have the habit of informing people. "I'm guessing it wasn't appreciated," he said. "And yet you just did the same thing to Remus that was done to you."
"Personally, I'd try to make sure to treat my staff better than I was treated. It's not about permission or even approval, it's about being decent, but also about your staff understanding and supporting you, even if they might not always agree with you." He looked at Snape for a moment, wondering just how deep Dumbledore's schooling ran in him. As loyal as he was to Dumbledore, and as much as he understood the need to withhold information at times, he did try to be more open about his motives, especially with decisions that he knew was going to be unpopular.
"I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I think you can figure out what I think you should do. Whether you actually do it or not, is entirely your business." Remus deserved an explanation, and an apology for not being informed sooner, he hoped Snape was able to offer at least the former.
