He reached out and squeezed his son's hand. "I always wanted you to be happy, and loved, and to be able to love in return. And I wanted you to not have to know the darkness that I've known."
"I panicked. Because the thought that you'd lose your compassion, your ability to love, that scared me more than anything I could imagine save from losing you entirely."
"Sleeping is definitely good," he chuckled. "Don't overdo it, you won't be able to duel if you fall asleep half way through," he joked. "Just know that I'm here if you need me, even if it's just to complain about how horrible Snape is at teaching."
