Albus had remained behind long after the Aurors had cleaned up the Great Hall - his Great Hall. At his age, sleep was not something needed in grand quantities and he didn't think he would be able to sleep anyway. Instead, he started to work on the throne, intent on removing all traces of Tom's presence, but his mind was in turmoil. The castle called to him. When he had arrived, he had been tempted to take his job back. He knew that he would have been able to do it, because it would have been the political correct choice, but Albus hadn't wanted to upset things just yet. Maybe if he had, none of this would have happened.
That was the crux of the matter.
As much as he wanted to be, he wasn't infallible. He couldn't predict everything, but he still had to try and the castle-
Oh, who was he kidding! He didn't need the castle to do that. No, he wanted the castle. Not the school, not the students, but the castle and the power inside it. When it came down to it, he wasn't much different than Tom. With a sigh, he seat on the steps, hands on his knees. Hogwarts was his home, but maybe he should say goodbye. He always made his decisions alone, but this was too big with too many implications. With mind still swirling with conflicting thoughts, he sent his patronus to the farmhouse, asking for Gellert to join. When his friend arrived, Albus was still sitting there. He looked up and smiled a little. "Thank you for coming."
