Remus laughed warmly and shook his head. "It's not all bad," he said. "Grown-ups do get to do things kids can't. And, really, the problem with a lot of grown-ups is they've never outgrown the need they had in school for all the silly posturing and gossip."
He turned his attention back out to the wandering crowds, scanning once again for friends or threats -- particularly as he was now unconsciously taking responsibility for Lily's safety in the absence of any other family in viewing distance. Despite the uncomfortable dress code, he had to admit the lights were pretty, even if he couldn't quite make out some of the colors. The contrast of shadow and illumination cast interesting enough patterns.
"That it did," he agreed with a wry chuckle when she commented on the party at the Burrows over the weekend. "There are a lot of strong personalities in the family. They're bound to clash occassionally, I think, -- especially when opinions differ on serious subjects. They'll get over it eventually if they really love each other."
Looking down at her with an amused expression he added, "Those may be the truest words ever spoken."
