"Why shouldn't I be talking to you?" Jacob asked quirking an eyebrow at Peter. Though he knew exactly what he meant, of all the people here - all those who would eagerly come home with him tonight even - Jacob could have had his pick of any number of them, but instead he was here talking to Peter.
He shrugged at Peter's very honest assessment of the situation - it was true and Jacob wouldn't deny that, not even to get in better with Peter. "I am starting to think you'd rather I take my company in someone else this evening." He leaned in closer, sure that Peter could very nearly feel him - almost inappropriately close for a public function such as this. "I thought you liked having me around Peter, or have I been mistaken in forming that thought? I'm sure I can always find someone else who would actually like having me around if I am, in fact mistaken."
