"Better than smackings and whackings!" Remus laughed. "I think there's been enough of those for tonight."
This was easier. Light conversation about books with a friend who knew them well enough to use references in the teasing didn't put Remus as much on edge as odd remarks that reminded him of what he didn't know. And, he was better able to focus on just getting to know the woman as a woman now, rather than trying to become reacquainted with a wife he didn't know.
When she finally figured out his Moorcock reference, Remus nodded with a smile before adding, "Speaking of smackings, how is Ron? Were you able to calm him down a bit?"
