While the mere fact he had a son seemed like a major miracle to him and he rarely thought of what he'd missed other than to feel guilt over Ted having to grow up without him, Remus did have pangs every now and then, moments when he bitterly regretted that Fate had robbed him of even the memory of the baby boy Ted had been.
The tentative smile turned into something brighter as she switched characters on him. "At times I feel more like Gurgi," he teased. "But no, I think if I was going to be a literary character, I'd be Erekosë trying to find my way back to being John Daker."
Of course, Erekosë also had an Ermizhad. But Remus wasn't considering that part of the story.
