This was why he never told the truth. People got that suffering look, and started to get all serious. It was much easier to lie and say that he had no clue what Remus was talking about and he would prepare himself, but then again, if he had done that, then Remus would have worried that he wasn't ready.
"It's my job, Remus. I wanted to be an Auror, and I'm fine with what I have to do. I didn't say it to make you feel bad, but to point out that I'm not that naive either." He didn't add that he'd read every piece of information on Voldemort and knew more than Remus could imagine. "People like it when I'm the happy-go-lucky first born. I give it to them. It's very useful."
James snorted. "Yes, I did. I came out to my entire family. I came out and told them about Sirius. I think that alone is very stupid, but there are plenty of other things."
He looked back to Sirius, and hoped that things wouldn't explode soon. "I've had enough excitement for a few days."
