"Thank you," he said honestly. He gave her a hug freely. It was something that he needed to hear more often. This was not something he got from his family, at least not in the same way. "I'm glad I was here to celebrate properly."
"I'm not sick at all, just tired. My body took a beating." He nodded and smiled sweetly. "I don't know how but I'm very glad that they did. Your family must be relieved." He realized he was treading on dangerous ground. "I am lucky they let me go back to work. I have so much to catch up on."
