Summary: Ben is doing some writing and catching up on the news
The house was quiet when Ben got home from work, which wasn't unusual lately. Work had been different, Hannah had seemed tired and of course Dom was out for the next few days. Minnie had come in to help out, for which Ben was grateful. he wouldn't have minded working the extra shifts, but not having to do that meant he could spend some time in his sadly neglected studio.
He grabbed a copy of the Prophet, wanting to catch up on the news, and headed out with Bob faithfully at his heels. His music room was always a place he felt relaxed, though he never minded when people came to visit him. He'd moved the couches from his old flat out here, along with some bookshelves and of course his piano, keyboard and guitars. So it was a cozy place, and the perfect space to read the paper and clear his head.
He still hadn't heard from Bryn, but he knew that if there was something really wrong Jazz would owl him. But if he still hadn't heard anything by tomorrow, he would head over and see what was up. Bryn was probably just not feeling well, a cold or the flu or something, and didn't want to worry anyone.
He opened the paper and skimmed most of the articles, and it wasn't until he reached the back page that he found something to grab his attention. The Apollo Center was holding auditions for a second pianist for their concerts. He looked at the ad for a long time, and then moved over to his piano. It was always easier for him to think while he was playing.
He slid into an old, familiar song, fingers moving across the keys without his having to pay much attention to what they were doing. It was soothing, and gave his mind a chance to think through the possibilities. He loved his job at the Leaky, but it was just a job. Music was his life. And if he could have a chance at this...it could be the first step to actually getting his name out there, and that would be good for the band. Good for him too. An actual career, instead of a job.
The next song came naturally, and he realized he didn't have to make a decision right this moment. He needed to think things through, and talk to Ronan. The auditions were a couple of weeks away, that was plenty of time to make a smart decision. Smiling, he lost himself in the music.
