"Well, that 'disgusting stuff' is what you're going to need to stay healthy now, unfortunately." Neville sighed and wished he knew what kind of blood might be more appealing to her... most likely none. She could still eat regular food but, it wouldn't be nourishing for her... maybe a very rare steak would do? He shook his head only barely to regain his thoughts and took his handkerchief out of his waistcoat pocket for her. "Here darling."
He knew she'd only protest if he had said 'but if I was just there to protect you', because she was a grown woman, even though he always saw her as a child. "It is not your fault.... not unless you went up to a vampire and willingly told them to bite you." His nostrils flared and had the sinking feeling he was about to get some details a father wouldn't normally want to hear.
And he was right, all he wanted to do was lock her away and every young man who even looked at her sideways would get the third degree by wand-point. But all he did was nod through it, knowing that the young people 'hooked-up' or whatever it was they were calling it these days, randomly. But for her to be found alone in Diagon Alley? It was deplorable and he wanted whoever it was who did this to pay.
"The only thing your mum is going to think is thank the Gods you're alive." Not like in the muggle tales or films, Minerva's heart was still beating, though much slower than Neville's which was beating like a hammer. His hankie was balled up in her fist and Neville tried to gently loosen it from her grip to blot the tears from her face. Wanting to ask her to identify the blaggard who'd done this was probably too much too soon, so he only sat with her. "You're going to have to try to eat something Minnie, I know it's disgusting to you but you're as white as a ghost and it's the only thing that will help you feel stronger and get rid of the hunger you have. You could pinch your nose closed if that might help." Neville knew he was babbling, it was something he did when he was clueless in a new area of being a father.
