He could tell that Jamie wasn't happy, which was just what he didn't want. Closing his eye he almost groaned because this was so utterly stupid, and really he should just keep his mouth shut.
"Of course I'll come," he repeated. "And it was a stupid reason, really it is. I just-" Oh fucking hell. "I just didn't feel like being reminded of how little family I have in comparison to you." Or rather of how he mattered to no one. "As I said, stupid. Not to mention embarrassing. But there you have it. I love your family, you know that, right?" He just wished he was part of something like that himself. But it was a wish that would never come true and he needed to let it go.
