Summary: Remus sees if he can work out his issues with his former Headmaster's requests.
Since talking to Neville and agreeing to take the Defence post if the Board agreed, Remus had put even more energy into his morning training, determined to get up to speed at least technically, if not practically. He knew he had a solid grounding in the approved curriculum and required studies. But, as his journals about Harry's need for the Patronus charm had proved, he needed to be prepared for those needs of the students the curriculum did not address.
Unfortunately, he'd put so much focus into that morning's training, it was lunch before he remembered he was supposed to meet with Dumbledore.
Talking with Harry the other night had eased some of the uneasiness Remus had been feeling over his last conversation with the former Headmaster. At least, it had eased it enough that Remus was able to see that he really should have gone to the Professor with his concerns directly. Yes, they hadn't parted on what Remus would have called happy terms the last time Remus had seen the man before the recent Order Meeting. But, that was mostly because Remus was angry. He'd always been able to talk to Dumbledore before and he should be able to do so now.
In any case, the old wizard was, perhaps, the only one who would be able to fill in some of the gaps his journals had left in the story of his future self. And, in a way, Remus owed him as well as Neville for this new opportunity to do something he would truly love.
So, cutting short his intended training -- he'd have to get in some more practice with his Patronus the next day -- Remus went inside and cleaned up. The black polo-neck and denims were still borrowed and he had no teaching robes, he thought. Setting that practical worry aside for the moment, he poked his head in to tell James and Lily where he was going and to make sure one of them would be able to stay with Lily if Harry and Ginny were going to see James Sirius because Remus would be stopping in at Ted's on his way home.
Then he apparated to Mould-on-the-Wold to seek out the Doge Farmhouse. Once there, he knocked politely at the front door, briefly wondering if he'd be greeted by the Professor himself, or if there was other family here.
