Michael wrapped an arm around his daughter and closed the book in his lap laying it aside. "Yes some of those words are pretty awful - some people feel like they need to hurt others and when they can't do it with their hands they turn to words." He brushed her hair away from her face.
"Baby," He said quietly, he hated to think that his daughter would ever have to deal with the idea that anyone thought less of her because of something he'd done, something he and Allegra could have changed but they didn't - because they were both too selfish, both too involved in their own lives to think about how it would affect their child later.
"Did someone tell you that?" He was rarely a man of violence but the thought of someone telling his daughter she was less, calling her a bastard, he wouldn't stand for that.
He sighed. "Some people, and those people are so backwards, think that it's wrong to have children when you're not married." He'd never understood it himself.
