Summary: Albus wants the Order ready for the next war against Tom
Albus had spent the past few days getting acquainted with this time. He had found a great many differences, especially inside the Ministry, but changes were just cosmetics, because no decree or regulation could ever change the heart of people. Some were good, some were bad, and some threaded the line, willing to go either way depending on what they were offered. Tonight the first group, the good, would meet here. Voldemort would have his men, but they would be less, because wealth, time and the knowledge of his bloodline would have thinned his supporters, and yet there would always be those few whose heart was so black that information wouldn't sway. The battle would be won with the last group. If they could stop him from getting support, it would make their job easier.
He rearranged the room, magic making chairs move around until it could accommodate the large group. Albus found that the castle was very helpful. Then he ensured that none of the portraits could visit tonight. He, better than anyone, knew how quickly secrets spread. The Baron and Sir Nick had been deputised to keep the ghosts and Peeves at bay. It was just like old times.
Albus opened the window, the cold wind reddening his cheeks. There were pieces missing and he didn't like it. Severus was his one greatest weapon and his biggest regret, because the man had been even more instrumental than Harry. The boy might have done the final deed, but they would have never got to that point without Severus. He wished he'd know what Severus had told Harry to convince him to sacrifice himself. The music brought him back to reality and he smiled as the large bird flew in front sky, tail shimmering gold with the last rays of the setting sun.
"Fawkes!" he exclaimed with affection. "You've come home."
The bird looked at him with his black eyes that had always reminded Albus of Severus and then flew inside the room and settled next Albus' chair, as if he knew that Albus would never sit in anything other than the what looked like an medieval throne. "It's starting again, and I have a feeling you will be needed again." Closing the window again, he waited until all the members of the Order had arrived. Only then, he locked the doors and cast privacy spells to ensure their safety.
"I must say it is good to see all of you again. Some I haven't seen in much too long." James was the perfect example. He remembered him and Lily, madly in love and eager to start a family. It felt like a lifetime ago. "Some look much older than I remember." So many of those children had become men and women, but Albus believed that their hearts were still pure as when they were students. "Some are just like I remember." Tonks and Fred Weasley were the perfect example of that. "And some new friends," he said, nodding toward James Sirius. Oh, but it would take time to get used to that.
"I think it's time that we regroup. The Ministry has never been able to stop Riddle, and while I can see how much things have changed, they still must operate according to rules that don't apply to us." He'd never been ashamed to ask people to fight, even thought he regretted every death, on both sides, but death was inevitable in war. "We can still make a difference."
