Re: A task for James, Sr.
"It's good to see you as well, Headmaster," James replied, though he knew it wasn't exactly the same. From his perspective, he'd seen Dumbledore a month or so ago. To Dumbledore... well.
He listened to what the headmaster had to say and felt his expression grow stiff with shock. Mend fences with Peter? With Peter? With the supposed friend who'd betrayed him and his family to their deaths? Was Dumbledore joking?? If he was, it was in very poor taste. Even had James felt inclined to ever give the rat another chance, Remus had made it clear that Peter wanted nothing to do with them. What Dumbledore was asking was impossible.
"Sir." His voice sounded very different now, careful and edged with barely-restrained temper. "I don't think that's... wise. Even I don't know what happened between us, what ever would have led Peter to... do what he did." Anger was rising ever closer to the surface, but he managed to keep a lid on it. "Even assuming I could get him to listen to me—and I don't know how I could, if he hated me that much—we could never trust him." The last bit came out between gritted teeth. He was really trying not to explode in front of Dumbledore, but it wasn't easy. Not easy at all.
