After Dumbledore had made off with both his friends, one after the other, James wasn't surprised when he was next. He wanted a word with the old man himself—something about letting Sirius rot in prison and leaving Harry with the last people in Britain James and Lily would have chosen—but this wasn't the time. As Harry had said, it was all long over and done with, and although James wasn't thrilled about it, none of it could be changed now. And regardless of any of that, James still trusted Dumbledore implicitly.
"Just tell me what it is, sir," he replied with a quick smile. "You know you can count on me."
