RP: It took a long time to get back here Who: Remus Lupin, Ronan Derrick Where: Diagon Alley, various shop windows When: Wednesday, 11 November 2024, morning Rating/Warnings: None for now Summary: Remus gets out of the house for a little bit
Remus had three times been back to Diagon Alley since "returning from the dead". Once to argue with Sirius. Once to argue with Peter. And once to actually do something productive and get a new wand.
Well, he supposed the argument with Sirius had been productive. They'd resolved their differences and regained their friendship, after all. Remus was grateful for that, for having both Sirius and James back in his life and adding Harry and Ted to the mix.
It was still difficult to just write Peter off as a lost cause. But what else could he do? Peter didn't seem to want anything to do with them, which was probably just as well given how likely James and Sirius were to hex first and ask questions eventually. Remus was the one who was willing to offer an olive branch and Peter threw it away. Remus wouldn't push himself in where he wasn't wanted.
So, that was that.
Pushing those thoughts away, Remus emerged from the apparition point and took a good look at his surroundings. Diagon Alley was one of those reassuring places that rarely ever seemed to change despite the years. Remus bet he could still name most of the shops along it's cobble walkways. Most of them had been there for centuries, after all. It was also one of the few places where stuffy purebloods in their robes intermingled relatively quietly with the half-bloods and muggleborns who opted to retain some of their muggle heritage in dress at the very least.
How deceptive that quiet bustle was generally depended upon the given day.
Needing to get out of the house for a bit, Remus had decided Diagon would be a good place to start getting reacquainted with Wizarding culture. Some things might stay the same, or change at a slower rate than muggle culture. But forty years was enough time for a noticeable difference! Now that he was caught upon his own history and the basics of the world's history, it was time to relearn the world itself.
Shrugging into one of the shirts loaned him by Ted and a pair of denims after breakfast, he'd left word with James that he'd be back soon and took himself off to see what he could see.
Now, he decided to start at the Leaky's end and just walk, browse the window displays, observe people, and in general just absorb as much of the ambiance as he could.
