"Dark creature," Remus retorted at both of them, although it was the first time in forever he actually smiled while saying the words.
Covering a snicker with another bite of his apple, he followed behind the other two as they wove their way through the party-goers and celebrations. The quiet garden was an immense relief from the crowds inside the house and Remus breathed a little easier as Sirius led them to an out of the way spot where a man might actually hear himself think for a moment.
Nodding his approval of Sirius' choice, Remus settled on a nearby bench, one foot propped up on it so he could rest his elbow there while he took another bite of apple.
"You might say this project is a bit of a return to an old one, but with a chance at improving upon the original." Remus didn't have to look to see if he had their attention. Years of experience told him all he'd had to do was drop his first hint and he had their undivided attention at least until they decided the project was worth their attention.
"When I talked to Harry last week about the current state of the world with Voldemort returning and all the rest of us returning, it came out that even though we've all returned to Hogwarts and Harry has been in possession of the Map, the Map's no use to him in tracking people returning from the dead. There's no indication when someone who wasn't there before suddenly shows up. Plus, he doesn't want to give it to the Aurors, which I think we can all agree with. The Ministry does not need to get their hands on our Map.
"In any case, I volunteered myself and by implication Sirius, although now we can include James as well, to see if we couldn't adjust the map to give a better overview of who's in the castle and when."
