Cass wanted to groan when James went off, because he knew it was bound to happen. He did not answer Peter's question or paid any attention to him at all at this point, but he did block him so that James could not get to him. "James, calm down," he said softly, pretending the last comment didn't sting. He knew his son had issues with him and he could only imagine that he would have told James that. To hear James confirm it was another matter completely.
"I'm only trying to get you to avoid making a scene, that's my only aim." His voice was low so they would not be heard, but several had turned to look at them anyway.
