"He's fine...and don't call him old - you know how sensitive he is about that sort of thing," Juniper scolded, even though Evan was the same age as Alistair. It didn't help that Evan looked ten years older though, having gone prematurely grey.
Juniper laughed. "What do you think sweets were made of? Asparagus? Of course this is all sugar - okay and well water too but hard candies, lollys, caramels. All sugar, sweet cheeks." Juniper gave Alistair a wink with the nickname she had come up with years ago.
"Yes, yes I agree with that theory but what sort of breakthrough have you come from it? Did you find some sort of - I dunno, link regarding our environment to our magic?"
Juniper grabbed a phial of lavender oil and added several drops to the batch, then grabbed her wand and levitated it over to a huge marble slab on a table. She upended the contents of the copper kettle with the caramel onto the surface and with magic cast large metal spatulas to begin folding the mixture under her supervision.
"Well if you did that then you wouldn't get anywhere with your theories and as much as I love your company, Al - you'd probably end up as chopped bits in my everything fudge because you'd be underfoot."
