RP: Another Crime Scene
Who: The Werewolf Task Force
Where: A fair bit outside Lowestorft, England
When: Early morning, 4 October, 2024
Rating/Warnings: Mentions of violence
Summary: The Task Force investigates the new crime scene

Dylan had helped him out after the transformation and Ronan had gone straight to bed, praying that there would be no bad news and he could spend the day in bed. However, he wasn't so lucky. The watch rang around ten thirty.

He obtained the details from Peakes. An older woman had gone to visit her daughter and family to spend her Sunday with them and had found the all family butchered. She had gone straight to the Aurors. Peakes gave him the directions, before he went to call Callahan and Newton.

Ronan got up with difficulty, his body still in pain from the transformation, but there was no time for that. He told Ben that he was leaving, before getting dressed. He went to the hall and banged on James and Dylan's doors, making sure that they were getting up, and then one more stop, waking up Patrick for the potion. He didn't like it, didn't want it, but there was a difference between being able to function and being well enough to work.

He stopped downstairs to eat some of the leftovers. He didn't even know what he was eating, but he needed food, and finally, all three were able to join the rest of the task force in Lowestorft.

Ignatius was at the office filing reports when he had received the details and had immediately set about getting everything they would need- Cameras, parchment, vials and evidence bags.

He had alerted St Mungo's and told them he would send for them at some stage in the morning before alerting the Aurors and Hit Wizards on the werewolf division. Ignatius then headed to the site, setting the equipment out once he arrived.

Sipping at his coffee he had brought with him, he pulled out a chocolate bar and ate that for a sugar rush whilst he waited for the others to turn up.

Dylan felt as if he'd only just gone to bed when he heard the banging on the door. For a moment he felt a deep desire to pull his pillow over his ears, or cast a silencing spell on the door, but as he started to wake he realised exactly why he hadn't put a silencing spell on the door in the first place.

Fuck! So they'd found someone.

He'd listened to Ronan's brief report as he forced himself to eat, and then the three of them, him, James and Ronan had gone to the site together. Peakes was already there, eating of all things. Dylan hoped he hadn't seen anything and was able to do that, because that thought was utterly disturbing.

He looked at the house, the door standing open, something that looked like rust but that he knew had to be blood on the steps and grass.

"How many are dead?" he asked. "Do we know?"

Callahan had arrived right after Peakes, after stopping to grab coffee and scones, because breakfast was the most important meal of the day. They didn't get to do much before the others arrived, though.

He closed his heavy jeans jacket, not giving a crap that he was wearing his Hit Wizard robe. He would not wear a bloody cloak around an investigation. He actually missed wearing a pair of jeans and a shirt. He ate a piece of scone, before washing it down with the black coffee.

"Three dead, four if you count the partially eaten foetus," he answered. "We didn't stay inside long, didn't want to add more scents. Four of you should go in first, and then us mortals start doing the work," he said, grinning at Peakes.

Ronan nodded, pleased with the decision. It would be even more important for Newton, since he was a newly bitten werewolf. "the three of you, get inside. James, Dylan, take a look, then change. See if you can track down the scent, and see where they went. It's not going to tell us where they are now, but it'll show us how they think."

He knew it wouldn't be easy for the two trainees, but this was going to get a lot worse before he got better.

He waited until the three went inside and turned to Peakes. "Did they take anyone? Any children missing?"

Ignatius watched as the other members of the team went inside. He remembered how ill James had felt last time and hoped that he'd be all right this time. He'd brought a thermos of tea and a thermos of coffee with him, suspecting that they might need something to settle their stomachs afterwards.

"Not as far as I know. I checked some of the family portraits inside and there's only the mother, father and the child. She was pregnant, hence the foetus," he said, his lip curling with disgust. "These animals... What worries me most is the fact that this is planned. Very well-planned. If they hadn't been expecting visitors, they wouldn't have been found for days."

Ronan frowned. The information seemed to confirm most of what they knew all ready, and he wasn't in the least concerned about that. He'd followed them for too long to think that they weren't talking the potion.

"What worries me is that they haven't kidnapped anyone," he answered. "It would have made more sense if they had. No matter why the split occurred, it would make sense to attack a family to take the children so that they can form a new, independent pack, but this? This makes no sense at all. This is violence without a purpose." He didn't like it one bit. "Let me go inside and get a feel. I'll be clear for you in a few minutes."

Dylan was apprehensive, to say the least, about going inside. But he could hardly show that to Ronan or Peakes - or even to James. He knew what was at stake, and knew he had to go. That didn't stop him from stopping short when he spotted the child in the grass.

Images of the eaten man he'd seen through the window last time flashed through his mind as he looked down. Only this was much worse - it that was even possible - because this was a child. So utterly small and defenceless.

Its arm was lying in an unnatural angle, clearly broken, and the boy's entire body was pressed down into the grass with bloody paw prints covering every inch. His skull was crushed and brain tissue had leaked out over the grass, mingling with blood that could be the child's, but also someone else's.

Fighting back the nausea, he looked around, seeing a lot of blood on the ground. Much more than last. "They've must have started out here," he said with distaste, before forcing himself to follow the trail of blood inside the house.

The scene that met him was nothing he could possibly have prepared for. His hand went almost immediately to his mouth as he stopped short, trying to will himself not to throw up. He was probably white as a sheet in the face, but he couldn't even be arsed to care right now. The smell alone had him fighting not to throw up, and he crouched low to battle the nausea even as he was unable to look away.

To the left the man lay, partly eaten, looking like the man he'd seen through the windows. His intestines were pulled out, and in the midst of them... He closed his eyes, because those paw prints were considerably smaller than the others. A lot smaller. He didn't need to wonder why that was.

He dared a glance at the woman, but didn't move closer. He could see well enough from here, and really really didn't have any inclination of seeing what was left of a half eaten foetus. He forced himself to turn away looking up at James and Jasper, wishing almost that Jasper hadn't been here. It would have been easier if it was only James.

Jasper's eyes didn't really see what was in front of him, instead of the bodies he identified paw tracks. The largest set, obviously the 'alpha', lead the way into the house. There was a mess of other prints overlapping each other, scuffed up ground showed what a hurry they were in to kill and have their 'fun'. He inhaled, filtering past the sickening iron stench of blood, to pick out the scent of the wolves.

Jasper sidestepped Dylan as he stopped in his tracks. He couldn't blame the kid, the place was a mess and the corpses were mauled almost beyond recognition. The smell inside the house was a thousand times worse. Sex mingled with death. Six or seven males were here along with the alpha, at least that many individuals he could pick out.

The little bitch, she'd been reprimanded for something because he smelled fear that wasn't human. Her scent stuck in his throat as he breathed, she was newer than him, and she had been put in her place.

James had been preparing for this all month long. He knew what he'd see and smell. He had no illusion about the state of the bodies. He refused to react a second time, even if he could never eat while discussing the murder.

When he got inside, he took a cursory look, before stepping inside. He was careful to avoid anything that could be considered evidence, and noted everything he could.

No matter how much he had prepared, his stomach was in turmoil, and the sight of the smaller prints did nothing to stop that. However when he saw Dylan crouch down, his concern changed. This would be Dylan's first and his own first was too fresh in his memory not to know how it felt. He got close and squeezed Dylan's shoulder, without saying anything. They couldn't with Jasper around, even if the man didn't seem to pay them any attention.

Ronan followed the rest of the team inside. He still moved gingerly, body hurting, but refusing to let the transformation get in the way of his work.

He took in the scene using all of his senses, before closing his eyes, and breathing. The smell of the blood and sex was unmistakable, but under it, he could smell the werewolves, some very familiar to him, some new. When he was done, he looked at the two young ones. They wouldn't have time to feel sick.

"Dylan, James, I want you to transform and concentrate on the scents of the werewolves. If we ever get close, I want you to distinguish them, all of them," he said.

He waited for them to do so, before getting close to Jasper. "They won't smell the same when they are in human form, you know that, but if you pay enough attention, with time, you'll be able to tell them apart. I'll let Ignatius and Callahan know that they can come in," he said, before going outside, and calling the rest of the team so they could start cataloguing all the evidence.
