Stephen laughed. "That's not why I do research. I enjoy coming up with a solution, working out all the numbers and magic until they work together. The hospital likes the profit and the notoriety."
He hadn't expected the question, and he'd tried not to think about it, but now he had no choice. He took his time, trying to be accurate. "I guess it depends what you mean by that. I regretted the moment I said yes, because it's probably the most stupid thing we've done in a while. Do I regret being with you?" he said, lowering his voice, making sure that there was no one who could hear them. "No."
Stephen tensed at the contact. It was nothing, especially in this crowd, and no one would even notice, but because of where they were and the assumption people made about most of the attendees, he needed to be extra careful. "I hate being here," he said with a sigh. "He might be terrified, but some of us have a lot more to be scared of than sex. Besides, I didn't snap at him here. I snapped at him at the hospital. Here, I was being sarcastic, and if he can't take this, he'll never finish his training." He smiled a little. "You've always been nice."
