Summary: The return of Frank Longbottom
Six weeks after James and Lily's death, and the subsequent disappearance of Voldemort and Frank still felt on edge. It was as if something still was yet to happen, though Dumbledore had assured them that Voldemort was gone and without their leader, the Death Eaters scattered. That his followers were still out there, lurking in the shadows, didn't sit well with Frank and he was sure he wasn't the only one. It would be a long time before he and the other members of the Order could relax and ease back into something of normalcy.
And then there was the joyous but frightening news of Alice's pregnancy. Neville was still only a baby and now they were expecting to bring another little one into the world. Frank had naturally been beside himself with happiness over the news, even though it followed the death of their beloved friends. After the news had sunk in, however, he worried. Worried and felt guilty, for why should he and Alice deserve such happiness when everyone else around them seemed to have suffered some loss?
He knew Alice had noticed his recent, distracted mood and Frank also knew he had to snap out of it. He didn't want Alice to think that he wasn't happy about the baby because that was the farthest thing that could be said. So, picking up a bouquet of daisies from a vendor in Diagon Alley and buying a box of pain au chocolate for his wife, Frank had started home where no doubt Alice and Neville would be waiting for him with smiles on their faces.
"Sweetheart? I'm home," Frank called out, stepping into the house and hanging up his cloak.
A high, giggle echoed through the house. "Sweeeeetheart I'm hooooome," a voice called back, mocking Frank and he dropped the flowers and box of treats on the floor as he went for his wand.
His wand was blasted from his hand, and a feminine cackle followed. The hair on the backs of Frank's arms stood on end from sudden adrenaline and the power of magic in the air. His eyes went wide when the owner of the voice came into view and Frank bared his teeth.
"You," he hissed, recognizing the witch in front of him that wasn't his wife. "What have you done with my wife and boy you bitch!" he yelled, and a baby's cry began in the house, causing Frank to surge forward towards the intruder. He didn't get within five feet when something hit his back, pitching him forward and Frank fell, fell, fell into darkness.
**********
He woke face down on the ground, which was soft and wet under his cheek. Frank groaned as his eyes fluttered but the pain that he expected to feel from being knocked out wasn't there. His eyes opened wide as he realized he was free and not bound. Frank braced his hands on the ground and realized he was outside - the grass wet as if it had been raining, the dirt soft and muddy.
Pushing himself up, Frank looked around in the dark frantically. He was alone; or at least it seemed that way for the intruders at his home were not around and just where the fuck was he? Frank got his feet underneath him and crouched low to the ground, still looking around. The moon wasn't yet nearly full, but it shed enough light as his eyes focused. There was something familiar about where he was....
A splash of water nearby and Frank jerked, his hand grabbing for his wand which wasn't there. Fuck, those bastards must have taken it. Well if he was alone, where was Alice. Oh my gods where was Neville? He stood up, panicked and there was another splash of water nearby. Cautiously he went to where the sound was coming from and found that he had woken up near a large lake. Confused, Frank wandered near the shore and the moonlight shone down on the water which was rippling black. Something came up out of the water, like a snake only...no. It was a tentacle.
The giant squid. Merlin's beard he was at Hogwarts!
Frank turned and began to ran. He had to get to Dumbledore and tell him what had happened. They may still have Alice and dear gods let her be safe and alive. Her and Neville. Frank's chest burned from breathing in oxygen as he ran, and the panic that something had happened to his family. Please let them be alive.
"Oi, you! Stop! Hold it right there and don't come any closer!" a male voice called out in front of Frank as he grew closer to the castle.
"I need to see Dumbledore, please I'm a friend! This is an emergency," Frank shouted, recognizing the command of an Auror. Why was an Auror at the castle? Had something else happened?
'I mean it, stay where you are!" the Auror called again and came into view with his wand drawn. Another Auror ran from inside the castle outside to back up his partner. His wand was also drawn, and Frank stopped in his tracks.
"Look, I'm Frank Longbottom. Auror Frank Longbottom and I must see Dumbledore it is an emergency," he pleaded, putting his hands up and in front of him to show that he was wandless.
The Aurors looked at each other as if to understand something that crossed between them and the second Auror sighed, his wand lowering a bit. "Fucking hell, Mike it's another one," he muttered to the first Auror.
"Another one, what are you bloody talking about? Let me speak to Dumbledore now. My family is in trouble; Death Eaters have them!" Frank said, getting frantic again.
"Look, mate. Just calm down and we'll help, yeah?" the first Auror said, still not lowering his wand.
"We should tell the Headmaster," the second Auror murmured and Frank sighed in relief.
"Yes, tell Headmaster Dumbledore that I'm here to see him please! Right now...for fuck's sakes I'm a bloody Auror too!" Frank just then realized that he didn't recognize the two Aurors in front of him and he knew everyone in the force.
'Hang on who the hell are you two? What the fuck is going on here?" Frank said, his voice rising.
The second Auror began to say something but Frank decided if the two men weren't going to take him to Dumbledore he would get through the castle doors himself without their help. He moved forward with intention to push his way past the Aurors, and the men shouted at Frank to stop. The first Auror, who was a bit on edge as it was only his second time at Hogwarts at night on surveillance waved his wand and stunned Frank, who fell to the ground unconscious yet again.
"Aw, fuck it all Mike," the second Auror said with a sigh, running a hand through his hair. "Now this just means more fucking parchment work back at the office."
"Well godsdammit, Hal the guy was a loose canon and appearing out of no where and saying he's Frank Longbottom and isn't he supposed to be dead? I mean just what the fucking fuck is going on around here?" Mike said, his voice getting louder. Hell. Potter wasn't going to like this at all.
