To say things had been going smoothly over the last several weeks would have been an out right lie. To be perfectly honest, things were going as far from smoothly as was physically possible - things were still a mess at the Ministry, they were still searching for those werewolves, people from Lavenders' department were being moved around where Harry needed them, and that wasn't even mentioning all the other day to day things Lavender had to deal with.
And then there was this whole ordeal of people returning from the dead. That boy had been killed up at the school and then gods Voldemort. It seemed impossible, how could that man come back again. He'd already been killed twice before, were they really doomed to have to kill him again and again for eternity? It just didn't seem fair.
Home was thankfully the one place Lavender felt like things were going smoothly. Both she and Mandy were safe, Ben was doing well, apparently he'd even found someone he'd take the time to negotiate a relationship with, and Anthony was safe despite being up at the school so often. And Lavender felt at least at home things were good, her family was safe and she had someone to come home to each night.
Tonight though, when she finally made it home after a long day at the office, things were different.
She was greeted by the smell of something in the oven, it smelled lovely actually. And Lavender followed the scent into the kitchen. She wasn't prepared however to find the counters and table filled with baked goods. Cookies and pies as well as whatever was in the oven now. Baking was never the best sign, at least not this much baking, she'd been so busy with work she hadn't noticed the way Mandy must have been worrying up until now.
"Please tell me we're not keeping all this." Lavender said with a small smile as she wound her arms around her lover's waist pulling her close despite any bit of flour that Mandy had on her, and kissed her.
