There had been absolutely nothing peculiar about the boy, save for his slightly odd robes when he came down the stairs. Nothing to make him stand out in the sea of students surrounding him. Nothing at all until he broke lose from the crowd and headed for the front doors.
Cunningham and Houghton, the Aurors stationed in the Entrance hall, was helping to keep track of the students as they filed into the Great Hall, but the moment they saw the boy deviate they yelled at him to stop, to not go outside, to return back into the castle. They were at the doors, both of them, speaking to the boy outside.
A second later hell broke lose. Bentley had made it a bit more than halfway through the hall when he heard the words spoken by the boy. Or rather yelled. There was no mistaking them and with four people already returning none of them doubted that the boy was who he claimed to be. Drawing for his wand, Bentley rushed across the distance left to the doors, but even though it wasn't very far it was impossible to reach the doors in time.
A moment, and then lightening flashed outside. Thunder roared. Students screamed. Then the all too familiar green light and for the briefest moment Bentley thought Cunningham had taken the hit. His heart nearly stopped as Cunningham fell, until he realised that Cunningham had thrown himself out of the line of fire just in time. Jumping over the other Auror, Bentley joined Houghton and headed after the boy, barely aiming when throwing hex after hex after him. One hit, but a blink of an eye later the boy - Tom Riddle - He-who-must-not-be-named - was gone.
"I'll go and inform the Ministry." What else was there to do, to say - You-know-who was back again. If only a boy, it was still him, he'd proven that already by the magic he'd performed today. Walking up the stairs, Bentley tried to form the words to say to the ministry in his head, only once he was up at the Headmaster's office and had a quill in hand, the message ended up being a lot shorter than he'd had in mind.
You-know-who is back and free. Young but powerful. Full report will follow later.
