Barely an hour before Angus Birmingham was brought back to life, hundreds of Hogwarts students were milling in from outside and different areas of the castle to the Great Hall for their evening supper. The same Great Hall where most of the Battle at Hogwarts had taken place before any of the current students had even been born.
It was during this great Battle that Angus had lost his life, having been brought down by students half his age and size. It had been a humiliating way to die. He never did catch the eyes of the person who cast the killing curse on him, but instead had fallen down in front of a fair-haired boy of twelve who had stared down at him in awe as the life exited Birmingham's body. The last thought in Birmingham's mind was how beautiful the boy was.
When he awoke - for that's how he would refer to it after - Angus found himself staring into the eyes of another beautiful boy. But instead of the cries and shouts and noises of violent battle, Angus heard only the startled shriek of the boy in front of him who had seen the Death Eater appear as if from thin air.
Confused, Angus realized that he should have his wand in his hand but his hands were empty and upon discovering that he growled with fury. What was going on here? Where were the others? It was as if he blinked his eyes and instead of blood and chaos that should be there before him, all was quiet and clean.
The boy, finally coming to his wits, seemed to about to scream and Angus grabbed the child's jumper. He pulled the boy up against him, turning him around and clamping a hand over the child's mouth.
"Shhhh, dinna ye be screamin' now laddie," the Death Eater said in his broad Scots accent. "Ye ken squirm all ye like, though. I like 'em that fight," he whispered softly against the boy's ear, then inhaled and moaned. The boy smelled wonderful - all innocence and babyflesh.
The child whimpered as Angus' free hand searched through the boy's clothing and with luck found what he wanted. A wand.
Pressing himself against the boy, Angus ran his tongue up the boy's cheek. The child sobbed in fright and then the ammonia tang of urine filled the air as the boy lost control of his bladder. Angus laughed, a low and predatory sound.
As this was happening, a fifth year prefect boy came around the corner from the Great Hall, having finished his dinner quickly and saw what was happening. The prefect drew his wand.
"Oi, leave him be!" he hollered, and Angus stood up straight and put the wand in his hand to the temple of the child in his arms.
"He's mine!" Angus hissed, backing up and looking around for an escape. Shouts of alarm went up and a cacophony of voices echoed back, starting to fill the Entrance Hall where Angus had appeared. Panicking, Angus looked around then felt the sting of a hex graze his arm. He swore and taking the boy in his arms jumped out a window, crashing through glass which cut his face and hands, as well as those of the child with him.
He didn't run far with the weight of the boy dragging at him. Only two hundred meters from the main entrance into Hogwarts Angus stopped, and looked down at the child - and then neatly snapped the boy's neck before dropping him on the ground. The forest was ahead, and in there he would find shelter. He would find his master, perhaps and then maybe another pretty boy that had big blue eyes to entertain him.
By the time Terry Boot appeared out of the Great Hall to the commotion and saw the broken window - and heard the hysterical explanation of a kidnapped student from the prefect - Angus Birmingham had slipped into the forest to find his refuge. Terry ran out of the big oak doors onto the grounds of Hogwarts, chasing after the intruder but finding nothing but a small lump on the ground near the path he'd taken.
When Terry reached Eddie Davies, the boy's eyes were staring blankly up to the sky - his head twisted at a strange angle to the rest of his body. Terry swooped down and felt for the boy's pulse, but there was no beating of life left in such a tiny, frail body.
He heard gasps and a few cries behind him and Terry looked over his shoulder seeing students piling out of the castle. Without having to think, Terry took off his Professor's robes and covered the small dead body of Eddie Davies.
"Get back inside!" Terry hollered, his voice as commanding as it could be. "Go fetch me the Headmaster and get back inside now!" A few older Prefects began to herd the students back inside the castle walls as quickly as they could, and one of them was already running to tell the Headmaster the horrible news.
