Maria had been brought to the hospital from school the moment lessons ended; she'd been cranky all day (worse than normal, even) and had gotten points taken from Slytherin in Professor Chang's Arithmancy class. Didn't even know why she was bothering with NEWT level, she hated the class and wasn't the brightest. Her father was big on it, though, so she put up with it and merely rolled her eyes when Professor Chang had harshly reprimanded her for nodding off. Really, you think they'd be used to such things by now.
Floo'ing to the hospital felt like being tossed into a whirlpool thanks to her feeling off kilter anyway and by the time she was settled into her 'safe room' she was agitated and a complete mess. Having run free on the full during camp had had an unexpected affect on Maria; she wanted to be out again and the closer the moon came to rising and changing her, the more irritated and hyper she became. She felt feral and angry and the Healers who worked with her commented more than once that she was harder to handle than ever before. She knew her father would be reported to as to her behavior but she didn't care, she wanted to be out roaming. Taking the potion calmed her a bit and then she sat fidgeting in the middle of the room rather than pacing and cracking her all ready bruised knuckles every few moments.
When she felt it began, her breathing becoming labored, her joints starting to feel looser and sharply painful, she shouted out in a shaky voice, "Better enjoy this while you can! I'm not coming back! Never!" And then she lay back and took one last long, painful breath before it began. Her head rolled back in a crick and her eyes rolled quickly from side to side, her mouth opening and shutting jarring her teeth as if she were having a seizure. She felt like she'd be sick for a minute and then the nausea passed and she coughed and dry heaved horribly. Almost over, she told herself, that always meant it was almost over.
