SUMMARY: Johnny discovers that they have a new neighbor.
"Bunch of savages in this town.." For a bright and sunny Tuesday afternoon, John Grayson was in a lousy mood. Losing a family member (no matter how little he saw of them) was never a fun experience. He couldn't even imagine how bad it must be for Mary who actually trained with their uncle Damian. The death of Batman had left a stain on all of those in their family and the last thing he needed was for Mary to come outside to this.
A large bat had been tagged on the face of their brownstone in black paint. Over the head two 'X's had been inscribed in purple and green. The sight sent a surge of anger that lessened to an aching pain in his chest. So he worked off the anger and pain with a bucket of water and soap. It took him most of an hour and by the time he was done, his shirt was sticking to his back. Sparing a withering glare up at the sun he went to rinse the bucket. The graffiti had been turned into a faint black smear on the wall and for now that was all he could hope for.
Johnny plopped himself down on the stoop and put his head in his hands. Eventually he looked up and swept his gaze over the neighborhood. Each building in turn held signs of last week's battle and though the damage was minimal in most cases, their building had remained unscathed. It made no sense. Shrugging off that particular mystery, Johnny stood up and snagged the bucket.
Once inside the building he headed for the stairs. He managed to make it up three steps before his nostrils were assaulted by the stench of cigarette smoke and cat piss. "Grayson!" A groan escaped him and he turned to lean over the hand rail on the stairs. The door to the landlady's apartment was open and she was standing there in a pair of slippers and a robe that wasn't belted as tight as he'd have liked.
"Yes?" Johnny put his face in his hands and waited for the inappropriate comments to start. Hopefully she didn't grab his ass this time.
"Be a dear and take those muscle-y arms up stairs and help my niece unpack." She blew a cloud of smoke out into the air and fixed Johnny with a gaze he'd only seen on hungry lions before. "She's in the Goldstein's old apartment. Hurry along now upstairs." And with that she leaned against her door frame, her eyes locked on the young man's form.
"Um.. Right. Help out. That's...okay." Was all Johnny could really say and he attempted to walk backwards up the stairs. By the time he reached the third floor he could hear the sound of movement nearby. A box held the door of an apartment open. Padding forward, Johnny peaked his head in and knocked. "Hello? I--" And then he caught sight of a curvy form and all coherent thought took five.
