He did what Chase wanted him to do.
He did what he thought other people thought he should do.
Archie decided that he needed to grow some balls at some point in his life. The telepath did a lot when it came to protecting the others, but it was something that could be overlooked so easily. It wasn't him flying around in some high-tech armour, he didn't have superstrength, he couldn't use telekinesis. His life revolved around what he could spread with an idea even if that idea was usually on the fifth page of The Daily Planet and on a slowly growing blog that he kept when he wasn't working. It was shamefully updated nearly every week. But he protected his own identity with it. Archibald wasn't a full-blown hero like all of the people he grew up beside but he was somewhat happy. But never satisfied. Archibald knew that he carried with him some ideal of a hero that stopped existing a while ago. The heroes he knew were flawed, or anti-heroes in his eyes. But they still lived and most people spoke about them as if they were living next to living gods. Nearly untouchable, but still accessible enough for people to know they were still in the world. They were still accessible enough to offer some sort of security for everyone else who felt like they needed a hero.
Archie stepped off the bus, pulling his laptop case closer to him as he walked down the street. He wasn't heading home, he was heading to somewhere that had coffee that another person could make for him. Preferably someone who actually knew how to make a latte where he did not before he headed back to his apartment to work. Or just to scroll through his blog, ignore the naysayers who would comment that he didn't know what he was talking about. He ran his hands down his pants legs before tucking them in his pockets, chewing on the inside of his cheek. Archie... His head jolted up a bit when he heard someone say his name, brow quirking up before starting to walk in the direction of where the voice came from. He thought it might have been his imagination when he noticed that there was no one. Well, maybe a couple people. But none that would know his name before coming to a stop when he noticed a serpentine tail slide out of view. He tightened his fists a bit as he figured there was really no reason for him to be there at all. "Must be losing my mind," he mumbled to himself as he pulled out his phone and started walking back the way he came. It was his own decision not to go off course anymore, it was too dangerous for that and the only weapon he did have was his phone.
Archie... The voice was even louder this time as he looked up from his phone just as he turned the corner. People ran past him in a flurry of shadows it seemed. Some were screaming while others were just fucking booking it. You should run... Okay, that wasn't normal. Archie's looked up just as he heard a loud flapping noise overhead. A wise man once said 'run like hell'. So did the voice inside his head. You should run, boy. The voice screamed and Archie froze, staring up at the demon just as someone collided into him and sending the two of them to the ground. "Holy shit! Holy...crap!" The guy panicked as the two of them didn't know whether to freeze or run before Archie pushed himself to his feet and pulled the other guy along with him, pulling him along with him as they both ran. The demon overhead continuing to circle around the both of them as they ran before the creature dropped to the ground, it's large tail swiping and destroying a bus stop. Possibly a car as it hopped on top of a van, the alarm beginning to blare as both men skidded to a quick stop. The creature screeched and both men screamed. The other man seemed to be frozen in place before Archie grabbed his arm and tried pulling him along.
"You gotta move, c'mon man!" He tried pulling him along with him. Leave him, Archibald. Archie cringed at the voice as he tried pulling the guy more. "No! I'm not going to leave him, damn it!" He was sure he sounded like a psycho at that point before pushing the man out of the way as the creature made a swipe at them, Archie dropping down to the ground with the man before the creature dropped to their level and trying to grab for the other man. Archie pulled the guy closer to him and gritting his teeth at a nearly sickening crunch of the other man's leg, making the attempt to pull him away from the other man before Archie kicked out his legs, hitting the demon in the face before struggling to get to his feet and dragging the other man with him. "You have to run," he gritted out as he lifted one gloved hand to his mouth, pulling off the glove with his teeth and spitting it out before bringing his hand to the side of the man's face. The effect was almost instantaneous, he knew what he was healing the broken leg. As the man's bone mended itself, Archie felt the weakness in his own leg. He fought back crying out as his leg snapped from underneath him and Archie fell to the ground. The man didn't really stop to think as he got to his feet and...ran. Leaving Archie behind without even looking back as the creature tumbled into the alley with a screech. Archie's eyes widened a little before pulling himself out of sight...behind a couple trashcans and leaning his head against the dirty, sticky wall before pulling out his cellphone again and sending out an SOS to the only individual he knew that could handle this.
You should've left him. Archie scoffed, rubbing his temples as he leaned back against one of the trash cans. "Aw...shut up."
