Deep in the privacy of her own head, took a moment to exhale a breath that had been held for hours. Finally. The rate things were going, she was afraid she was going to have to staple the goddamn flyers to someone's forehead.
Externally, she smiled and pitched her voice sweet. "Sweetheart, did you miss me already? Mmm, I certainly missed you." She paused as if listening, then giggled. "Nicky, not on the phone."
"D'Lee, who is it?"
"Hang on a tick, baby--Piss off, Emmett. I'm busy."
"I need the landline to check some wire transfers! Can't your booty hound just call your cell?"
"I lost it, now piss off." There was a slight thumping sound and a pained yelp.
"Hey, that hurt, you--okay, whoa, okay, I'm going!"
"Sorry about that, baby," Dana-Lee drawled. "The house is brimming with family today, not an inch of privacy to be found. It's like a prison, really. But it's just so nice of you to call me back, you're a lifesaver."
